Cayman - eh it's grand! Tuesday 15th June

Today we caught the tender to Grand Cayman (they're building a port as we speak!). The island is a wonderful place full of beaches and the greenest sea you ever did see! Her Maj is still in charge of things here - they even had a day off to celebrate her birthday. That's more than we get!

The Governor is the Head Honcho at the island. However, if the people don't like him they can request the Queen to replace him. Sounds like a great way of doing politics!

Our first port of call was a rum factory where I sampled the banana rum - and very nice it was too! Then it was off to the Turtle farm where you could see (and pick up) turtles of all shapes and sizes (well you can't actually pick the big ones up or you'll rupture everything). You could even sample turtle soup in the cafe. I should really have run back to the pool to warn the turtles of their fate.....

Hurricane Ivan had a devastating effect on the island a decade or so ago - flattening most buildings. Amazingly, no-one was killed. Although all the chickens are now wild, having all flown the coup when Ivan came calling. All in all a wonderful place to visit and the locals are very friendly. Considering that tourism is the number 1 source of income, that's not suprising!

They drive on the left hand side of the road here. As I was sat in the front passenger seat of the tour minibus, a lot of the Americans thought I was the driver! Bless 'em! x
