Excursion No.2 found us on the island of Roatan (which is off the coast of Honduras for those wishing to impress others with their geography!). No tender this time - the ship came up close and personal to the dock. However, because of the wind the ship couldn't berth in the usual Mahogany Bay, but instead had to drop anchor at Coxen Hole. No tittering at the back please!
The island is very different from Grand Cayman - far more lush with green vegetation everywhere. Still damn hot though! Firstly we took a river boat cruise around the island, taking in two ship wrecks. These weren't centuries old - they sunk in the 1980's! One was carrying timber, so the locals swam out and took all the wood to make extensions to their kitchens. Resourceful lot these Roatans! Then we drove up to the mountains to get a spectacular view of the green coral stretching out across the sea. The drivers aren't very observant here. One Pepsi truck was stuck in a ditch, and an oil tanker nearly took a taxi out by driving straight into oncoming traffic. But we all survived to live another day! Back on the ship ("Welcome back Mr David" said the cruise staff) we all waved to complete stangers on the shore as we departed. No sign of Acker Bilk though.
Just a quick word about dinner - penne pasta tossed with tomato and vodka. Yummy! And the warm chocolate melt cake was heavenly! The waiters must have read my previous blog about charging for the bottled water, as we were continuosly topped up with jugs of water at no charge.
Thanks v much for all the comments, they are really appreciated - sorry I can't respond to them but time is mone..........
